Faculty of Dentistry, Thammasat University was established in 1996 (B.E. 2539) as the 7th dental school in Thailand. The faculty operates with four core missions:
Graduate Production
With qualifications aligned with the profession, emphasizing critical thinking skills and promoting lifelong learning in accordance with social changes.
Academic Services
Provide dental training through lectures and hands-on practice for interested dentists, as well as collaborate with various organizations to improve oral health for the Thai population.
Dental Services
Provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary dental services at the student dental clinic and through the Royal Dental Unit outreach program.
Research
Conduct research and create innovations that can be applied to improve oral healthcare in Thai society.
Due to the shortage of dental professionals in Thailand, Thammasat University recognized the problem and established the Faculty of Dentistry, which marked the 7th dental school in Thailand under the approval and official announcement of the Royal Gazette, Volume 113, on February 21, 1996.
The Faculty of Dentistry, Thammasat University, was the first dental school to recruit students who had already completed a bachelors degree. The curriculum incorporated Problem-Based Learning (PBL) for theoretical studies and a community-based learning approach to develop students into critical thinkers and lifelong learners.
The Faculty of Dentistry, Thammasat University, continues its commitment to be one of the leading dental schools in the country. In 2017, the new bilingual curriculum was introduced as the first programme in Thai dental schools to foster dental education to be internationally recognized and to produce students with a global mindset.
Furthermore, by addressing the shifting demographic structure of Thailand and the global population trend toward an aging society, the faculty of Dentistry, Thammasat University, is now emphasizing geriatric dentistry. The curriculum is designed to prepare students to provide comprehensive treatment and promote preventive approaches, producing graduates with diverse skills and competencies across multiple aspects of dental care.
